Meccano has strong associations with model railways. Frank Hornby, the inventor of meccano subsequently started making Hornby Model Railways.

Hornby started with O gauge clockwork models. Early models had an element of self assembly compatible with meccano. It was not followed through and really there was no official relationship other than being the same company between the two.

Obviously this was due to O gauge being in practise too small to be compatable with meccano. In practise a much large gauge is more compatable with meccano, and the market for such gauges is very limited.

History books on Hornby suggest one tentative effort with a meccano electric motor for O gauge. However in practise is was so out of scale with O gauge stock it was  not pursued.

Of course all things are possible and below is a quickie of meccano body on OO gauge chassis.
